Double your Damage – Increase your defence
Rondel of Fragility + Veil of the Night + Brass Dome is a cheap unique trio that gives a large damage boost from Act 1, fixes the resistance problem that unique creates, and can carry into endgame if you convert armor into elemental mitigation. The items are low level, widely available on trade for exalt-range prices, and work on many attack and spell setups.
The core idea is simple: take the huge more-damage, skill speed, and crit chance from the amulet, ignore its −30% elemental resistances by wearing a helmet that sets all elemental resistances to zero, then scale armor so a percentage of that armor also applies to fire, cold, and lightning hits.
The Three Uniques
Rondel of Fragility (Lunar Amulet, Level 14)
- +(20–30) maximum Energy Shield
- (15–30)% increased Skill Speed
- (20–30)% increased Critical Hit Chance
- −30% to all Elemental Resistances
- (30–50)% increased Damage
This is the damage engine. In the video example, a crossbow shot jumped from about 13k to 21k just by putting the amulet on — roughly a 45% increase from one slot. You can use it from early campaign onward.
Veil of the Night (Martyr Crown, Level 28)
- 50% increased maximum Life
- +(10–20) to all Attributes
- 40% reduced Light Radius
- You have no Elemental Resistances
The helmet sets elemental resistances to zero. Positive resist mods on other gear do nothing. Negative resist effects (the amulet, map mods, curses, the Brass Dome penalty) also do nothing. You stay at zero instead of going deeply negative. The 50% more maximum life is a large raw tankiness boost; +all attributes helps requirements, life-from-strength, and general scaling. You typically pick this up going into Act 3
The Brass Dome (Champion Cuirass, Level 58)
- Very high increased Armour (hundreds of percent; aim for a high roll)
- −(5–1)% to all Maximum Elemental Resistances
- +(200–300) to Stun Threshold
- Take no Extra Damage from Critical Hits
This is the late-game armor piece. The max-res penalty is ignored by Veil of the Night. “Take no extra damage from critical hits” shuts down crit-damage map mods and similar effects. With sockets and iron runes you can push the chest toward ~4,000 armour on its own.
Together you get: more damage + skill speed + crit, a big life multiplier + attributes, huge armour, and immunity to extra crit damage — while your displayed elemental resistances sit at 0.
How Resistances Actually Work With This Setup
Standard resist gear and runes that add “+% Fire/Cold/Lightning Resistance” do not help while Veil of the Night is equipped. Those values are zeroed.
Instead, path to Armour also applies to [element] damage nodes. Examples mentioned in the video include clusters such as Heat Proof, Red Blade Discipline (fire), Brine Rot (lightning), Mute Wind Agility (cold), and later Path of the Renegade (a portion of armour to chaos). The more armour you have, the more mitigation those nodes provide. One example build reached 90% armour application and tens of thousands of effective elemental reduction from 50k+ armour.
Useful body-armour scaling nodes:
- Sturdy Metal: 80% increased armour from equipped body armour
- Ancient Aegis: 60% increased armour from equipped body armour
If your class does not start near the Warrior area, a Split Personality jewel that lets you allocate from the Warrior starting point can open that path.
Greater Iron Runes in sockets add more armour. Some Soul Cores (for example Heat Proofing from Chaos trials) convert a large portion of armour to a specific element.
Who This Works For
The video uses it on both a crossbow build and a shield-bash build. Rondel itself is generic increased damage, skill speed, and crit, so most damage types can use it. The trio leans naturally into armour stacking, so Strength-heavy or hybrid armour characters get the most defensive value. You can still wear just the amulet + helmet if you do not want to commit to Brass Dome and armour conversion.
Spirit can be tighter because these unique slots are not giving you Spirit prefixes. A sceptre or other Spirit sources can offset that if your build needs reservation.
How to Get the Pieces
All three are general drops or chancable and are usually cheap on trade.
- Rondel of Fragility: Drops early (Act 1+). Chance a Lunar Amulet. Trade copies are typically exalt-priced, not divine.
- Veil of the Night: Drops from Act 2 onward on Martyr Crown bases (areas such as the Lost City / buried shrine type zones). Chance a Martyr Crown. Bare versions are very cheap; paying a bit more for high +all attributes (ideally 20) and extra sockets is worth it. Runemastered versions exist if you want that upgrade path.
- The Brass Dome: Level 58 unique. Chanceable but rarer. Prefer high armour rolls and three sockets. Socket Greater Iron Runes. The video advises against Runemastering it if you want raw armour, because that conversion can shift value into Runic Ward instead.
Optimize in this order: get any version of each unique → upgrade rolls (damage/speed/crit on the amulet, +attributes and sockets on the helmet, armour and sockets on the chest) → add armour-to-elemental nodes and iron runes.
Endgame Viability and Limits
The video shows the same trio on characters in the mid-80s to low-90s. It is intended as a “from campaign to maps” package rather than a forever-best-in-slot set. You may eventually replace the amulet if your build wants a specific unique amulet, or swap the chest if you move fully into Energy Shield or evasion.Limits to plan around:
- Light radius is reduced on the helmet.
- You have no conventional elemental resistances; armour conversion must do the work, or you will feel elemental hits in juiced content.
- Chaos resistance is not zeroed the same way; you still need a plan for chaos (armour-to-chaos nodes, chaos res on other slots, etc.).
- Unique slots mean fewer rare prefixes for Spirit, resists you no longer use, or other stats.
If you keep stacking armour and pick up the conversion nodes, the setup remains comfortable well into endgame maps. The damage from Rondel and the life from Veil stay relevant even after you upgrade other slots.
